Wendy’s Pumpkin Spice Frosty shows the importance of seasonal desserts

While the brand believes in “Fast Food Done Right,” that mantra is more than the perfect build on its latest Loaded Nacho Cheeseburger. With the Wendy’s Pumpkin Spice Frosty, the quick service restaurant shows that seasonal desserts should always be part of the conversation.

The iconic Wendy’s Frosty is unlike any other quick service restaurant dessert. That delicate balance between soft serve and a milkshake, it has no like competitor in the food marketplace.

In recent years, Wendy’s has expanded the classic chocolate and vanilla offerings to include seasonal choices, like peppermint and strawberry. Each one brought excited fans to the restaurants over and over. Even if those seasonal flavors might not exactly be the same as dipping those Hot and Crispy Fries in the original, people could not get enough.

With the new Pumpkin Spice Frosty, Wendy’s continues that seasonal dessert conversation. As Lindsay Radkoski, U.S. Chief Marketing Officer for The Wendy’s Company commented, “Wendy’s is helping turn our fans’ cravings into reality this fall by introducing our new Pumpkin Spice Frosty. From our summertime Strawberry Frosty to last year’s holiday Peppermint Frosty, and now our fall Pumpkin Spice Frosty, we are all about meeting our Frosty fans where they are by bringing familiar, and iconic, seasonal flavors to the menu. We can’t wait for our fans to get their hands on this new go-to sweet treat this fall.”

Wendy’s describes the Pumpkin Frosty flavor as a “hint of pumpkin” with “warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg.” Based on that comment, this seasonal dessert should not be pumpkin pie in a spoonful. It should capture a warm, cozy vibe with a touch of the gourd. In some ways, it might be the sweet option for people who prefer less pumpkin in the PSL.

In addition to the Pumpkin Spice Frosty, Wendy’s is adding Pumpkin Spice Frosty Cream Cold Brew. Given the success of its coffee line, Wendy’s was smart to add this seasonal beverage. Although not revealed by the food brand, the additional brings speculation that a peppermint forward coffee could arrive for winter. It seems like a logical extension of the Frosty Cream Cold Brew.

Looking across the quick service restaurant space, including seasonal desserts appears to be a requirement. Even though some people might never stray from their favorite menu item, the sweet extra is the sometimes treat. The food offerings bring a touch of excitement even if that weekly order is routine. And, if that limited time food brings in a new customer, it could be the first step in a long lasting relationship.

Wendy’s Pumpkin Spice Frosty and Pumpkin Spice Frosty Cream Cold Brew will be available starting September 12 for a limited time. Check with local restaurants for availability.
