Looking to take another step closer to becoming Gordon Ramsay’s executive chef, the Hell’s Kitchen Season 23 final three earned their position. From a tableside service to spotting the sabotages, the chefs proved that they are ready to run Hell’s Kitchen.
For the first challenge, the chefs had to prepare tableside service for the executive chefs and their teams from four of the Foxwoods Resort Casino. This challenge was more than cooking a great dish in 15 minutes, four times in a row. It was about showmanship paired with delicious food.
Overall, all four chefs did well. No one became flustered or cracked under pressure. For that unusual interview setting, everyone would have earned a positive report with the team.
One chef earned the resounding win. With 75% of the first place votes, Kyle won. Whether it was the flambe, the dish, or his quick wit, he was a hit with the chefs.
While the tableside challenge went well, this particular dinner service puts the chefs attention to detail to the test. The sabotage service is the time when the pressure gets heated in Hell’s Kitchen.
Since this season featured only head chefs, this particular challenge is not has significant as other seasons. All the chefs know how to run the pass. It came down to handling the pressure. Unfortunately, one chef cracked when she returned to her station.
First up at the pass was Egypt. Overall, he did well. Although he missed the venison in the Wellington, he did demanded respect.
Hannah went second. She made her presence felt. Specifically, she easily spotted the errors and took command of the leadership role.
Whit had a strong voice. She spotted the issues and required that the chefs execute properly. But, there was a little edge to her leadership.
Last at the pass was Kyle. It seemed that he was waiting for his moment to shine. Not only did he catch all the sabotage items, but he was also unafraid to send dishes back to the chefs. He led with authority and took control of the kitchen.
During Kyle’s turn at the pass, Whit had a meltdown and brought the kitchen to a halt. From making a silly mistake with the risotto to a broken carbonara, it was a mess. More importantly, her reaction to the errors was inappropriate. A Gordon Ramsay head chef cannot lose their cool.
In the end, it was relatively even. But, only three chefs would move into the next round. Like most Hell’s Kitchen seasons, the front runners at the beginning of the season do not always make it to the final cook.
Egypt was the first chef picked for the final three. As everyone remembers, the Blue Team tried numerous times to get him eliminated. Egypt almost threw in the towel himself. His rise to the top is the ultimate comeback story.
The second chef picked was Hannah. According to Chef Ramsay, she earned her spot through her consistency. She might not have won many challenges, but she was rarely the cause of issues in the kitchen.
The final spot would go to either Kyle or Whit. Based solely on this particular Hell’s Kitchen dinner service, the choice was clear. Kyle moved into the final three and Whit was eliminated.
Although Whit did not have to give up her chef coat, her reaction to the decision was not pleasant. Chef Ramsay based the decision on her inability to keep her cool. Her response to being eliminated proved that he made the right choice.
Which of the finale three will move into the finale? Be sure to watch a new episode of Hell’s Kitchen Season 23 on Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX. Episodes can be streamed the next day on Hulu.
