Beyond the Big Macs and Happy Meals, McDonald’s has long supported athletes, especially in the basketball community. With its first-ever female athlete meal, the Angel Reese Special, the food offering is more than just another well-curated offering. It is time to put female athletes in the spotlight.

Many people have a favorite or preferred McDonald’s meal. Even though the value meal offerings are beneficial to the wallet, that Quarter Pounder with Cheese, fries, and a Sprite is the saved favorite order in the app. Sometimes cravings trumps savings.

Over the years, McDonald’s has celebrated people’s favorite meals. Even a Super Bowl commercial showcased that concept. Additionally, there have been special offerings associated with some of the hottest celebrities.

With the newest offering, the Angel Reese Special, the meal is more than just a satisfying combination of food and flavor. It puts women’s athletics front and center.

The Angel Reese Special features a “BBQ Bacon Quarter Pounder with Cheese featuring a new Bold BBQ Sauce, World Famous Fries and a choice of drink.” The combination will definitely get people talking.

As Angel Reese said, “McDonald’s has always been a big part of my life, from grabbing a McChicken Sandwich as a kid to being named a McDonald’s All American in 2020. It’s really a dream come true to be the first-ever female athlete to have my own meal and be a part of McDonald’s amazing basketball legacy. I hope the Angel Reese Special inspires young athletes everywhere to never give up on pursuing their dreams.”

This special meal is packed with flavor. In a way, it is a twist on that ever present swicy trend. The new BBQ sauce is smoky, spicy, and a touch sweet. For anyone who prefers BBQ sauce over ketchup, it is a must try. Maybe there is a way to get a little extra serving to ensure that every bite is saucy.

While guests can chose their preferred beverage, it might be beneficial to pick a flavor that cuts through the richness of the meal. A citrus forward option can help bring some balance.

In addition to being a bounty of flavorful food, it is a celebration of both the influence of female athletes and McDonald’s connection to basketball. Last year’s WNBA season was the most successful yet. When young women can see the power, influence, and success of the current stars, the next generation is ready and willing to strive for more.

Although there is plenty to celebrate with this new promotion, McDonald’s alluded that there is more to come.  It seems that the Angel Reese Special might be just the first of many athlete collaborations for 2025.

The Angel Reese Special is available via the McDonald’s App, restaurants, and drive-thru. It can be ordered now through February 10, 2025, or while supplies last.
