As Team Ramsay battles Team Vanderpump, Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars Season 2 episode 7 tasked the entrepreneurs to tackle a challenge that any food business needs to manage. In this trade show product demo, one team failed to read the room. The consequences were more dire than anyone had imagined.

The challenges in Season 2 have tackled common concepts within the food business world. From creating a new candy to shaking up an immersive cocktail experience, each episode unveils another chapter in this ultimate business bootcamp.

Even though personality conflicts will always be part of these reality television challenges, the reality is that managing people is part of business. Bringing out people’s strengths while minimizing their weaknesses is vital to achieving success.

In Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars Season 2 episode 7, the challenge was relatively straightforward. Present a product demo to a group of food industry buyers. These types of presentations are commonplace at any trade show. Anyone can look at a kitchen gadget or blender and understand the function. People want to engage, learn, and somehow make that kitchen item become the must have essential.

The biggest struggle that each team had was explaining the products. Even with a few hours of prep, they should have been able to recite the key points to a Blendtec blender or even a multi-purpose chopper.

Team Ramsay struggled with finding the best approach to not only showcase the products but also engage the audience. The first words of advice that Gordon Ramsay gave his team was to “read the room.” If the audience is bored, distracted, or otherwise not paying attention, the concept is not working.

Only Andrew nailed his presentation. His Blentec blender demo not only showcased the blender well, he shared the many selling points of the kitchen essential. The tips about the USB port, blending versatility, and ease of dialogue made his presentation engaging.

Unfortunately, the other team members struggled. Ali should have been able to slice her way to an engaging food demo with her gadget. She even blurted out that it was not working well. It was a miss.

Everyone felt bad for Kyson. He struggled throughout the whole knife demo. A butter knife might not be very exciting, but there were more ways to spread a story about that gadget.

The most surprising part of Team Ramsay’s demo was Rose’ leadership. She seemed to talk over everyone. While her boisterous approach might have been beneficial to bring people into a booth, it missed the mark during this type of demo. The clapping, cheering moments were off putting and distracted from the demo.

Team Vanderpump struggled as well. While Nick decided to take the lead, he was not necessarily getting the best out of his team. Luckily, they listened to Lisa Vanderpump’s feedback to avoid the “school play” moment and focus on the functionality of each item.

Before the demo began, Team Vanderpump seemed to be struggling. Jess, who has been a top contender in most challenges, sliced her hand on the mandolin. It was clear that she needed more time to “learn” the basics of this kitchen item, or use the guard.

Nick made a big mistake in the demo. Luckily, the blender had an overall cover which did not cause the smoothie to fly all over the audience. Truthfully, Nick should have made some joke to cover up the mistake. It was an opportunity lost.

Overall, the Team Vanderpump demo was better than Team Ramsay’s. It explained the items, their function, and it was engaging. To be clear, it was far from perfect but it brought more potential sales than Team Ramsay’s presentation.

During the grilling, Gordon Ramsay was quite direct with his criticism. While everyone felt bad that Kyson’s speech impediment was a hinderance, it impacted his confidence. Until he finds a way to be able to effectively convey his business acumen, there is no way that he could win this FOX competition. He was eliminated.

In a twist no one saw coming, Ramsay decided to make a second elimination. Since her leadership caused the team to fail, Rose was the second team member sent home. She did not take the elimination well.

What is next for Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars Season 2? Based on preview clips, it looks like a scene from Hell’s Kitchen. Let’s hope that someone teaches Jess some cooking skills before she picks up a knife.

Gordon Ramsay’s Food Stars Season 2 airs new episodes Wednesday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Episodes air the next day on Hulu.
