Even Iron Chef Showdown is getting into the holiday spirit. This week’s episode, Italian Holiday Battle will bring some sweet treats to Kitchen Stadium.

In the first season of Iron Chef Showdown, Kitchen Stadium has been bustling with tremendous food battles. So far, all the Iron Chefs have had their cuisines reign supreme. Will the holidays continue to bring sweet victory?

According to Food Network, the Italian Holiday Battle episode will feature the following.

"The holidays hit Kitchen Stadium as Los Angeles chef Ted Hopson faces Detroit chef Kate Williams in a sweet showdown. The winning chef goes up against Iron Chef Alex Guarnaschelli in a classic holiday battle."

Based on the synopsis, this episode might be bringing something new to Kitchen Stadium. In the previous episodes, a sweet ingredient hasn’t been featured. While it is doubtful that the chefs will make an elaborate dessert in 30 minutes, the sweet ingredient should provide an unusual twist.

The secret ingredient challenge featuring Iron Chef Alex Guarnaschelli is going to be some type of Italian holiday battle. The battle could go in several directions. Italian Christmas Eve celebrations feature the feast of the seven fishes. Maybe baccala, a salted cod could make an appearance.

While some type of fish battle seems likely, the seafood options are many. Octopus would be extremely difficult to handle in a 60 minute battle. Other fishes would be more likely. Still, the battle would probably only feature one fish. Creating a feast of seven fishes in 60 minutes might even be beyond the talents of an Iron Chef.
