How much are you willing to spend on a pastrami sandwich? King DOMA might be the world’s most expensive sandwich.

Sandwiches are a lunchtime staple. From the classic ham and cheese to a hearty roast beef, the sandwich is always a popular choice. Usually, a sandwich is a reasonable expensive. Just recently DOMA Land + Sea created a $1,000 pastrami sandwich. Could this sandwich be the world’s most expensive sandwich?

According to DOMA Land + Sea, the King DOMA features:

"28-Day Dry-Aged Prime Beef Short Ribs7-Day Glenlivet 25 Single Malt BrineIndonesian Luwak Coffee Pastrami Rub“Gold Speck” Argentinian Grilled Rye Whiskey FlatbreadPan-Roasted Hudson Valley Foie GrasItalian Alba White TrufflesGold-Dusted Black Truffle Tater Tots with Saffron-Tomato AioliStoli Elite Wasabi-Infused Roasted Beet and Cabbage HorseradishCrystal-Infused French MustardMicrogreen Herb MedleyGarnished with Gold Leaves and Mr. Pickle’s Kosher DillsServed with a Glass of Cristal Champagne"

While many restaurants have the “most expensive” some type of food, this pastrami sandwich is definitely extreme. Much of the cost comes from the over the top, enhanced garnishes. It is highly doubtful that crystal-infused mustard is so much better than other gourmet mustards. How can a crystal enhance flavor.

Also, the gold leaves garnishes are over the top. Sure, gold leaf looks pretty in a picture, but there is no flavor. Shouldn’t flavor drive any good dish?

Looking at the dish itself, the sandwich is extremely rich. With truffles and foie gras, it would be a very heavy sandwich. Who knows if that microgreen herb will cut through all the fattiness of the dish?

Lastly, with this type of sandwich, wouldn’t it be better to drink it with some Glenviet versus bring with it. This flavor rich sandwich wouldn’t really stand up to the delicate champagne. Of course, Cristal champagne is wonderful, but some people might need a whole bottle to pair with this sandwich.

Granted, this King DOMA sandwich is for show. It is highly unlikely that anyone has or will order this most expensive sandwich. It makes for good talk and fun. If someone does order it, let’s hope that he shares the experience with everyone.
