Lucky unicorns? Marshmallow unicorns added to Lucky Charms cereal

After 10 years, Lucky Charms has decided to permanently add a new marshmallow. The magical unicorn is coming to the cereal bowl.

For some, Lucky Charms has been part of the morning routine. The magically delicious cereal has brought fun to the morning routine. While the cereal brand has added some limited edition marshmallows to the bowl, a new permanent marshmallow wasn’t part of the mix. Times are changing. Magical unicorns will be part of the favorite lucky cereal.

According to Josh DeWitt, marketing manager of Lucky Charms, the cereal can “inspire magical possibilities and help spark imagination and fun no matter what the age.” With the help of kids’ love of the magical unicorn, the new charm is a permanent addition to the favorite cereal.

The magical unicorn charm features “hues of bright purples and blues.” The colors are meant to appeal to both boys and girls. It is “first-ever marshmallow to be inspired and created by kids.”

This new marshmallow is part of the never ending unicorn food trend. Brightly colored and rainbow inspired foods continue to be popular. From cakes to ice cream and everything in between, the unicorn colors are whimsical and fun. People can’t help but smile and feel happy when looking at these colors.

In all honesty, many of these colors do not appear naturally in food. Everyone knows that there is no “real” blue food. Still, young and old find the rainbow colored unicorn foods whimsical. These foods aren’t necessarily about clean eating, rather they are fun eating. Still, this cereal does contain whole grains and 12 vitamins and minerals.

To make room for the new magical unicorn charm, one marshmallow charm leaves the eight charm line up. The hourglass will be retired. The younger generations may not see this charm as engaging. The old-school fans might certainly miss the hourglass. The symbolism of the hourglass has apparently lost its magic.

Adding the unicorn marshmallow to Lucky Charms is smart for the brand. It breaths some new life into the iconic cereal. While it might be designed to appeal to a younger audience, the broad appeal of unicorn inspired food is huge.

Lucky Charms, and its eight magical charms, including the new unicorn charm, can be found in grocery stores now. By March, the new unicorn charm should be widely available.
