According to Starz, Sweetbitter, season 1, episode 1, “Salt” is about the following:

"Tess, 22 year old, moved to New York City without friends or specific ambition; after an interview at one of the best restaurants, she’s invited to train there; Tess attempts to keep up while observing her new co-workers."

The first episode of Sweetbitter should set the scene for all the drama to come. If the show can show bot the family and chaos of an elite restaurant, the foodies should be both entertained and hooked. While this novel wasn’t intended to be a Kitchen Confidential style commentary, it does offer a glimpse into the elite restaurant world.

While the whole “

” world needs to be slowly unpeeled like an onion, the first episode needs to set a tone for the audience. This series has two different audiences to capture. First, the foodies who loved the book and want the understanding of what working in a Danny Meyer restaurant could be like.

Second, the show needs to appeal to the drama fan. At the center of this story is Tess. She goes from a naïve girl just arriving in New York City to an astute, well versed woman who can establish herself. While not necessarily a coming of age show, Tess needs to mature through this first season.
