According to Starz, Sweetbitter season 1, episode 2, “No Your Tongue Is Coded” is about the following:

"When Tess forgets her wallet at the restaurant, she goes back to discover what happens after-hours; Simone teaches her about the coding of tongues, leading Tess to become more enthralled by Simone."

When Tess seeks to find herself and a new life, she grasps at an unknown world for inspiration. These men and women who understand fine wine and delicious food appeal to her because it is new, different and intriguing. Is she infatuated with this world because it is new or because she loves it?

The first Sweetbitter episode was mostly setting the stage for the story. For those people familiar with the story, the first episode may have left them wanting more. Although there was authenticity and realism, it only brushed the surface.

As the story progresses, it will be interesting to see how the real characters balances the food characters. From the restaurant itself to the food that brings a new life to Tess, the characters that do not speak have just as much impact as the other characters.

The most exciting scene was the final moment in the walk-in with the oysters. That was the pivot point where Tess knew that she wanted more. Whether it is more excitement, more flavor or more of herself, it is her choice. Can Tess find her way in this new world or will that world absorb her?
