Forget wedding cakes, this week’s Best Baker in America episode is ready for summer fun. Can the bakers balance the fire and ice in a refreshing dessert?

With seven bakers left in the competition, this week’s Best Baker in America episode is getting a little heated in the kitchen. This week’s theme is summer desserts. Will the competition cause the bakers to melt?

This week’s episode, “Summer Desserts” might be hot and cold according to the Food Network.

"The seven remaining bakers begin by making perfect strawberry shortcake in the Skills Challenge. In the Master Challenge, the bakers must create a “fire and ice” desserts that features one frozen element, one bruleed element and has mint as the featured flavor. Guest judge, acclaimed pastry chef Sherry Yard joins Marcela Valladolid and Jason Smith to judge the final challenge and decide which baker is given his or her marching orders."

The Skills Challenge should be a good one. It will be interesting to see if the bakers make classic strawberry shortcakes or take a more modern approach. The changes could come from flavors, types of cakes or simple presentation. Hopefully, if anyone makes a biscuit, it doesn’t disappoint Jason Smith.

For the Master Challenge, the mint flavor could be the factor that separates the top and bottom bakers. Mint can work well with some flavors and oppose other ones. A little creativity could help a baker set herself apart. A lovely mint and fruit sorbet could be a great idea.

Still, with creativity, these bakers don’t necessarily need to push the envelope too far. This show isn’t Iron Chef. Goat cheese ice cream or some other crazy flavor may not be the best choice for this baking competition.
