Only six bakers remain in Best Baker in America Season 2. This week’s episode tackles a dessert favorite, cheesecake.
The first three episodes of Best Baker in America Season 2 have had the bakers test their versatility. From elevating the classic vanilla cake to redefining the iconic strawberry shortcake, these bakers show that skill and creativity are needed to capture the title Best Baker in America.
In this week’s episode, the bakers take on two iconic East Coast desserts. Boston Cream pies and cheesecake are favorites for their creamy, decadent goodness. Are you a little hungry?
According to the Food Network, this episode, “East Coast Classics” features the following.
The six bakers left in the competition face a Skills Challenge to create flawless mini Boston cream pies. For the Master Challenge, they’re asked to bake their version of the “ultimate” New York cheesecake with apple as the featured flavor. Cake genius and social media star, Joshua John Russell, joins Marcela Valladolid and Jason Smith as a guest judge for the Master Challenge, and one baker is sent home.

The biggest twist in this episode is using apple in a cheesecake. Berries, generally strawberries, are the top choice for a cheesecake. The sweetness of the berries play off the creamy, indulgence of a cheesecake.
Adding apple as the featured flavor is an unusual choice. The texture of the apple needs to be just right in the cheesecake. If the apples are too crisp or the apples are too mushy, the cheesecake will suffer. It will be interesting to see which baker can get it right.
Also, it will be interesting to see if the cheesecakes will have an unusual flavor combinations. Apples and caramel would be a traditional combination on cheesecake. I wonder if someone will push the flavor boundaries.
