McDonald’s has been listening to its fans. The newest menu addition, Sweet N’ Spicy Honey BBQ Tenders are rolling out nationwide. While this menu item will be available for a limited time, the addition shows the brand’s commitment to more chicken menu items. The big question is, how many orders will you enjoy before these chicken tenders disappear?
According to McDonald’s, the new Sweet N’ Spicy Honey Glazed Tenders are the Buttermilk Crispy Tenders tossed and glazed in this sauce. The glaze combines brown sugar, chili pepper, garlic and paprika. Although I haven’t tasted the tenders, the glaze sounds like the right balance of sweet and heat.

The key to these particular tenders should be glazing the crispy tenders. As long as the glaze gets in all the nooks and crannies of the fried coating, these tenders should be a home run. Given this type of glaze, the tenders were a smarter choice than a whole chicken sandwich.

Looking at McDonald’s menu options, this glaze option seems like it’s approachable nod to other sauce/chicken trends. A Nashville Hot chicken sandwich is too polarizing. Sriracha and other Asian flavors can be too bold. This options makes sense for a nationwide roll out.
While McDonald’s hamburgers are always a fan favorite, it is good to see them expanding the chicken menu options. From the Classic Chicken Sandwich to the Buttermilk Crispy Tenders, these choices show that chicken can be more than just a nugget at a fast food restaurant.
Although the exact duration of this new menu availability wasn’t stated, guest feedback will probably effect the timeframe. Just like many menu choices, guests voices do have an impact on keeping or removing food choices.
