Can Catfish Cabin earn redemption in this week’s Gordon Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back or does this institution no longer have the passion?

Catfish Cabin needs a rejuvenation. Gordon Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back looks to breathe new life into this old-school Memphis restaurant. Can the original owners find redemption or is this restaurant just too fragmented to be saved?

According to FOX, this week’s episode of Gordon Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back synopsis states:

"Gordon Ramsay’s “Hell On Wheels” travels to Catfish Cabin, a traditional southern-style restaurant located in Memphis, TN. After intense investigation and surveillance, Chef Ramsay and his crew find a passionate, but fragmented team, whose feuding is bringing down the entire restaurant’s morale. Ramsay will try to bring this failing restaurant back from the brink of disaster – all in just 24 hours. As the clock ticks down, Ramsay and his team transform this restaurant with a spectacular renovation, a fresh new menu and hope for the future in the all-new “Catfish Cabin” episode of GORDON RAMSAY’S 24 HOURS TO HELL AND BACK."

After doing a little research on this restaurant, it seems that Catfish Cabin has been around forever. When there was a change in ownership, the restaurant’s standards seemed to nosedive. What was a great place to eat fried catfish and hushpuppies became the downtown Memphis restaurant to overlook.

While many clips of this week’s episode show some horrible kitchen conditions, it might be better to focus on something less gross and more helpful. Sure, kitchen nightmares make everyone gasp, but learning something from these type of food shows can be more beneficial.

Fried catfish, done well, is amazing. The right ratio of a seasoned cornmeal to fish makes for a perfect bite. There are a few points that are important in this video demo.

More from FoodSided

First, the catfish (or any fish that is to be fried) needs to be seasoned. Don’t forget to put salt and pepper on the fish prior to the coating.

Second, the batter (in this case the cornmeal) needs seasoning, as well. That seasoning doesn’t have to be super spicy. Just a little note of flavor is permissible.

Lastly, the oil (which is used for frying) needs to be clean. Dirty oil won’t efficiently fry foods, which leaves them greasy. Additionally, the dirty oil can displace other unwanted flavors into your fried fish.

This demo shows that frying fish isn’t necessarily scary or hard. With a few key tips, anyone can make a beautifully fried fish.

Hopefully on this week’s Gordon Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell and Back, Catfish Cabin, there is a bigger push on restaurant redemption and good cooking, instead of poor hygiene shock value.
