Plant forward foods are the food trend that is not going away.

While food trends come and go, plant forward foods are the healthy eating option that seems to be taking over grocery store shelves. Putting aside any meat shortages, the popularity of flexitarian lifestyle choices or just food curiosity, the plant-based food world continues to expand. From pork to fish alternatives, it seems that anything can be transformed into plant-based cuisine.

Each year, the National Restaurant Association announces it FABI Awards during the annual trade show. While the 2020 NRA Show was canceled, the FABI Awards were still announced. Even though attendees didn’t get to taste the award recipients, the winning products are sparking much curiosity with foodies.

Over the past several years, many plant forward foods were huge FABI winners. This year was no exception. The majority of top choices were plant focused which shows that this way of eating continues to be a huge healthy eating food trend.

While some people might debate plant-based foods taking over grocery store shelves, the truth is that consumers want these options. From a sometimes substitute to an always choice, more and more of these products will be available.

Here are some of the FABI award winning plant forward foods that will want to try.

Impossible Pork

While Impossible Burgers are everyone, the pork option was considered by many people to be the game changer. Although some people are touting the environmental benefits, the versatility is key to this product’s success. From Asian inspired dishes to even a ragu, the options are many.

Gardein Crabless Cake

Fish is the newest plant-based makeover. The Gardein Crabless Cake offers a similar texture to the classic crabcake. It will be interesting to see how restaurants and consumers include this plant based option.
