Buddy Valastro creates some baking magic in Big Time Bake.

While baking might be a science, Big Time Bake seems to be under a baking spell. The new Buddy Valastro baking competition show premieres on the Food Network. What will these talented bakers conjure in the kitchen?

According to the Food Network, the Big Time Bake premiere episode, “Magic,” features the following:

"Four bakers have only six hours to conjure spellbinding cookies, cupcakes and a showpiece cake inspired by magic. Host Buddy Valastro is joined by pastry chef Zoe Francois and Cake Boss sculptor Ralph Attanasia to judge the creations and send the best baker on a dream vacation."

While Buddy won Buddy vs Duff Season 2, this baking competition is not just a cake show. The four bakers must tackle cookies, cupcakes and cakes. More importantly, the time constraints will play a big factor in this competition. Smart baking choices could play a factor.

Looking at the first episode’s theme, the idea of magic could offer some spectacular baked treats. While the visuals will be important, could these treats have a little magical flavors or tricks themselves? The baker who could make a cookie do more than melt in your mouth might have a big advantage.

Thinking about this Food Network baking competition, it is an interesting follow-up to Buddy vs Duff. Last year, Buddy had another baking competition where the winning treats were sold online. That idea of bringing food into the home offered a connection between Food Network fan and the competition.

This new baking competition is back to whimsical creations that make people spellbound. Although it is not one of the seasonal baking shows, it could become a fan favorite. The limited time aspect to the competition does seem to set it apart.
