Pizza Hut Big New Yorker returns to satisfy hungry fans
Standing behind the mantra that bigger is better, an iconic pizza is making its return to the menu. The Pizza Hut Big New Yorker is back, and everyone is ready to fold their way into that tasty bite. Ready to turn back time and remember why this gigantic slice will be a game changer, again.
Pizza is more than just dough, sauce, and toppings. That simple slice is big business. Even though food trends can impact what and how companies present inside that box, the reality is that a great pizza should also be a great value.
Feeding a group of people with one gigantic pie is desired. Whether it is a family with hungry teenagers or a party with friends, ensuring that everyone has a slice, or two, is important. In addition, that pizza order should not empty the wallet. In the food budget conscious world, value often influences satisfying a craving.
The Big New Yorker is more than just a fun name that pays homage to a particular style of pizza. While that slice is foldable, it is the larger size that made a big impression when the menu item launched in 1999. The 16” pizza with 6 large, foldable slices ensured that no one was fighting over the “bigger” piece. It was an example of value and flavor long before that concept was on the forefront of people’s minds.
As Lindsay Morgan, Chief Marketing Officer at Pizza Hut said, “At 30% larger than our large pizza, now is the perfect time to answer our customers’ requests and bring back The Big New Yorker in a big way right before the big game next month.”
In addition to the size, the Pizza Hut Big New Yorker pizza brings the flavors of a NY pizzeria to its offering. By incorporating sweet marinara sauce and Parmesan oregano seasoning, it has reference to that local pizzeria. While it can be customized with various toppings, it is the sauce and seasoning that sets it apart.
This concept is one that Pizza Hut has been employing more often. Regional style pizzas have been joining the menu. Its version of Detroit Pizza was a big hit. It will be interesting to see if other regional styles could be coming at a later date.
As Morgan commented, “The Big New Yorker was a huge hit when we launched it in 1999, setting the stage for future industry innovations like Pizza Hut Melts and Detroit-Style pizza.” It seems to imply that more menu innovations will be coming this year.
Lastly, the return of the Big New Yorker is another example of food companies responding to fans. Like other popular menu items that disappeared, many people vocalized how much they craved that big foldable slice. Pizza Hut knew that it had a built-in audience for the launch. Now, the flavor just needs to be as good as people remember.
Although this idea is not necessarily like the movie reboot concept that fills theaters, there is something to be said about bringing back favorite flavors and food items. Pizza Hut saw success when it brought back The Edge pizza. Maybe it is time for those personal pan pizzas that everyone remembers from Book It to have their moment in the spotlight.
For now, Pizza Hut Big New Yorker pizza returns to menus on February 1. Hut Rewards members can place orders on January 31. The starting price is $13.99 and this offering will be available for a limited time.
