Pickle flavored food is more than just a trend. While people can order a box full of pickle snacks, candy, and more briny bites, the beverage space continues to grow. The Spritz Society Pickle by Claussen is the sparkling wine cocktail that might become the must have brunch sipper.

In recent years, some new beverages might have started as a joke but have become a sip of reality. This particular Spritz Society Pickle is one of those options. While many wine drinkers have raved about the Spritz Society sparkling wine offerings for years, the classic flavors were more fruit forward. Given that savory flavors are taking over the beverage space, it was time to look at the plate for some briny inspiration.

Speaking to this special offering, Ben Soffer, Founder and CEO, Spritz Society, said “Nearly a year after launching this idea as an April Fools’ joke and continuing to get requests for a pickle flavor daily, we are thrilled to be teaming up with Claussen to bring Pickle to life. Knowing that Claussen also prioritizes high-quality and premium ingredients made them the perfect partner for this collaboration and we are so excited for everyone to try it!”

While there have been some pickle flavored beverages, this particular offering is different from the hard seltzer cans that have graced the shelf. Two aspects set this offering apart, first, the collaboration with Claussen and, second, it is a sparkling wine.

Speaking to the Claussen collaboration, Lizzy Goodman, Brand Manager of Claussen at the Kraft Heinz Company said, “With pickle being such a craveable food, we are excited to hear the response from our pickle lovers and think everyone will be pleasantly surprised by the unique, refreshing taste of a pickle-flavored sparkling wine cocktail.”

Ahead of the Spritz Society Pickle by Claussen release, FoodSided was given the opportunity to taste test the beverage. To be clear, non-pickle lovers might want to pass. There is no mistaking that this sip is a pickle beverage.

Still, the flavor is approachable. Although some people might serve a spear in the glass for more pickle goodness, consider a lemon or a lime to add some freshness. Even a skewer with caprese salad skewer might be a fun offering.

What makes this offering enjoyable is the white wine base for this cocktail. The bright, acidic notes pair well with the dill-forward flavor. That punch of acid makes it enjoyable on a hot day. Overall, it is light, refreshing and easily paired with a variety of food. From a spicy noodle salad to a juicy burger, it has many pairing possibilities.

Although this cocktail is delightful served on its own, it is quite enjoyable with a splash of Bloody Mary mix or tomato juice. For a lighter version of a Bloody Mary that is pickle forward, it makes a great option. Even if some people want to add a green chile vodka floater, it is a lovely sparkling Bloody Mary option.

The Spritz Society Pickle by Claussen is sold exclusively online by Spritz Society. A 8.4 oz can has 6% ABV, 120 calories and 5 grams of sugar.
