While he has a prime space to ring in the New Year in New York City, Andy Cohen is often the master of ceremonies at the hottest gatherings. As the glue in the Bravo universe, Cohen has seen it all. From Real Housewives extravagance to Vanderpump Rules jaw dropping moments, Cohen knows that friends gathering together can lead to the best memories.

Although some might dream of the perfectly curated party, Cohen believes that it does not require a Lisa Vanderpump bank roll to create a spirited holiday gathering. For him, the strategy to make that event spark really comes down to a few easy to follow concepts.

In a recent conversation through his partnership with Fresca Mixed, Cohen said a great party is simple. He said, “I think it’s all about the guest list, the ambiance, and having just enough spirits so that everyone is happy.”

That formula is straightforward. Although not a specific equation, it is a concept that can help guide any situation.

From there, Cohen appreciates that the guest list can ensure that the vibe is on point. He shared, “creating a good guest list is really important to me. The group is where people are going to be entertained and maybe there are some surprise guests, or people that no one is expecting to see. I always like to hold a few names back. When they walk in the door, everyone is excited.”

That mix of people is vital to any gathering. No one wants to be stuck in a corner talking to Milton about a red stapler.

When asked what is his polite out when stuck in that uncomfortable conversation, Cohen said, “truthfully, I do not allow any barnacles at my party. I’m not going to have someone that I just have to get away from. But, my usual go to get out of a conversation is to say to a friend, I heard that Melanie’s here. Melanie is fake, but it gives us an out and we can go.”

With the guest list on point, Cohen has another rule that he follows for his parties. He said, “I always call for my parties to be after dinner. Starting a party at 9 p.m. is great because people can get a bite to eat and its not my problem. They can come to my house, and I can have snacks, cookies, and sweet things. They are easy to serve and less expensive.”

Although there is plenty of food, Cohen appreciates a good beverage. While Watch What Happens Live might have a special bartender, Cohen enjoys serving Fresca Mixed at his parties.

“I’ve been drinking Fresca with tequila for years. This partnership with Fresca happened organically. Fresca Mixed is the perfect combination. Not only do I love the drink but the flavors and the taste are excellent. It is a perfect beverage to serve at a party.”

“You’re not buying tons of liquor bottles and cans. You can just set it up and be done. Whether it is paloma or mango citrus,” there is something for everyone.

Even though the serving method is simple, some people can add some flare to how that Fresca Mixed. Whether it is a pretty glass or a garnish, there are ways to add a little more festive to that libation.

Cohen prefers the simple approach. He said, “To tell you the truth, I’m not a big garnish guy. I have lemons, limes, and oranges cut up. Also, I think that cherries are super fun. People are always excited when you throw a cherry in their drink.”

The maraschino cherry tip is a good one. It is not necessarily a Shirley Temple, but there is something fun about playing with the stem. It might become a party game.

While there is plenty of fun and games to be had at a holiday party, Cohen has one piece of advice for everyone going into the New Year. The concept is simple, yet attainable.

“Get out of your box in some way. Go somewhere you’ve always wanted to go. Do something that you’ve always wanted to do. Seek out a new relationship. Just get out of your box in some way.”

As everyone gathers during the holiday season and beyond, grab some Fresca Mixed, have some spirited conversation, and get our of your box. Good times will be had and everyone can toast to that sentiment.
