While the Texas based vodka brand has a bushel of fruit flavored vodkas in its line, the new Deep Eddy Pineapple brings some extra juicy excitement to the cocktail shaker. From sweet to spicy, this new flavor will take drinkers on a joyful journey beyond the tropics.

Although Deep Eddy Vodka will be forever tied to a Texas watering hole, the brand’s spirits never have water down flavors. The real fruit infused vodkas have become a favorite because of their flavor authenticity. The bottles might represent a rainbow of colors on a shelf, but the vibrancy is best appreciated when poured in a glass.

The newest addition to the brand’s line is pineapple. While people love the grapefruit and cranberry has become a holiday staple, choosing to expand into the tropical fruit option is a risk. Although food television competition fans might joke that pineapple can often turn a victory into defeat, that sweet, juicy flavor requires a Midas touch to ensure just the right balance in any recipe.

With the Deep Eddy Pineapple, the beverage team has perfected the right amount of sweet with a hint of tart. There is an underlying brightness that adds to the versatility. No one should fear that this bottle is some canned pineapple with splash of vodka.

Like many of the Deep Eddy offerings, the pineapple is best enjoyed in a cocktail. No one is saying that it cannot be poured simply over ice, but it is better used with other ingredients. From a simple riff on a pina colada to a splash in a screwdriver, some simple cocktails can benefit from the tropical flavor infusion.

With a bottle in hand, it is fun to be a little playful or experimental with the pineapple flavor. Caramelized pineapple is delicious. Building on that slightly smoky or charred concept can be the inspiration for some cocktails.

For example, combining Deep Eddy vodka with some mezcal, lime juice and a sparkling water can make for a punchy cocktail. The mezcal adds the smoky note to contrast the pineapple. Served with a charred pineapple slice garnish, it could be the refreshing, yet potent, summer beverage.

Another option would be to shake up the Deep Eddy Vodka with some Ancho Reyes liqueur to highlight a spicy flavor. The vodka, chili liqueur and a splash of lime sparkling water would be a wonderful combination. Plus, using some frozen pineapple chunks as extra ice cubes would be fun. On a hot summer day, it would be perfectly refreshing.

Since Deep Eddy works well in a frozen cocktail, consider making a frozen tea cocktail. While lemon and peach might be more common combinations, a frozen green tea cocktail with pineapple vodka could be the must have beverage for spring. Served with a pineapple garnish and a cherry, it would be a fun alternative to the other traditional blended drinks.

Overall, the Deep Eddy Pineapple Vodka is a smart addition to the brand’s lineup. Since it took a few years to roll this flavor out, another addition might not come for a while. Maybe for the next launch, the brand will take a savory twist to its fruit options. A spicy lime or a minty lemon would be well received.

If those options are not on the table, maybe it is time to give strawberry its moment. That versatile flavor captures a taste of nostalgia and could be used in both sweet and savory applications.
