From his iconic role in American Pie to hosting Dinner and a Movie with his wife Jenny Mollen, Jason Biggs appreciates that food is forever tied to special memories and pop culture. As host of the new Netflix show, Blue Ribbon Baking Championship, Biggs slices a whole new experience for himself and viewers will be hungry for more.

The premise of Netflix’s Blue Ribbon Baking Championship is straightforward. Ten bakers are tasked with various challenges themed around a State Fair. From incorporating some of the fair’s iconic food to various twists along the way, the ultimate goal is to win the Blue Ribbon and the baking title associated with it.

During a recent interview with Jason Biggs, ahead of the series premiere, the actor offered his quick witted take on being the show's host. While he has happily served various sweet pie collaborations over the years, he stretched his baking chops in this role.

Although Biggs is the non-professional baker alongside Sandra Lee, Chef Bill Yosses, and artisan baker Bryan Ford, he wants people to know that he has whipped up some highly praised baked goods. He actually informed me about his baking accolades.

According to Biggs, he said, “you may have seen my banana bread recipe that was very well known in a certain part of Bergen County, New Jersey. It was published in a book, more like a notebook, actually much more like a notepad. But, it was published, is my point.”

While it might take some digging to find that special banana bread recipe, Biggs definitely learned a lot from the talented bakers and the judges, Lee, Yosses, and Ford.

Reflecting on the baking contestants, Biggs said, “I was blown away.” “I have a very sweet tooth, so it doesn’t take much for me. But, these ten bakers were clearly operating on a level that was insane.”

Although Biggs knows what he likes when it comes to baked goods, he was equally impressed by Yosses’ and Ford’s judging abilities. While he had enjoyed their delectable treats previously, seeing them in a judging role was different.

As Biggs explained, “they (Yosses and Ford) were able to find the little things, the inconsistencies or the lack of innovation from one round to the next. It was fascinating to see them discern all the little differences. I was just sitting there saying, this taste good.”

While he was happy to go along for the ride and he might have put on a few pounds from all the food, Biggs does feel that the Blue Ribbon Baking Championship experience has expanded his horizons. Could another award winning, publishable recipe be in his future?

Bigg believes that after spending time with Ford, Yosses, and the ten incredible bakers, he has added to his baking knowledge and abilities. As he said, “I came into this show with a breadth of knowledge when it comes to baking, as evidenced by my aforementioned banana bread recipe, I might enter something else in a baking competition. Maybe it would be a zucchini bread. It remains to be seen. But, I’m really just here to host the show because I do not want to show up the contestants.”

Anyone who watches Blue Ribbon Baking Championship on Netflix will be impressed with the bakers, their desserts, and Jason Biggs’ hosting abilities, too. It is a sweet slice of Americana that will have people hungry to go visit their local State Fair.

Blue Ribbon Baking Championship can be streamed on Netflix. All episodes are available.
